RIDING INTO A SURFACE AS A CHARGING PARTICLE


“Art” …a word with so much associated mystery, irony, cynicism and confusion.

The illusion is of simplicity and works created on the absolute edge of disintegration, so delicate, so fragile, so close to dust that every moment we can still see them is miraculous. And yet,…and yet…what appears flat is actually a buzzing cloud of particles of ink that seem to be a recognizable creature. These drawings float on the very delicate surface of each strand of material that comprises the paper. The gentlest of touches remains ambiguous in its withdrawal from contact. Perhaps inks cross from brush to thread in a solution of gray gouache that skitters into solidity from liquid.

When all is said and done we are witnessing alchemy at its most profound and pure. The mind of the artist extends outwards by means of what the oriental masters of calligraphy regarded as an extension of the fingers, the elegance of a brush. Paint and ink become tears of assertion as they testify to a momentary proposal of one mind’s perception. Change the way to perceive and change all memory. For the artist, in this case Daniel Albrigo, testifies to a sensation. Every shape and silhouette substantiates both the endless separation of the individual in their private expanse of Universe and the brief sojourn of each of us within a realm of possibility that their Art encapsulates.

"Daniel Albrigo uses soft, romantic lighting for his paintings, but he opts for a non-traditional use of the figure. In Glamorous Glue, Albrigo alternatively suggests that the sensuality comes not from the nude woman, but from the shape of her feet, and in Lepus, he sprinkles a map of the constellation over his masked subject, raising the figure itself to cosmic status."

I feel very lucky to be sharing my first real exhibition of oil paintings with the very talented timothy hoyer. timothy has been painting for years and aways has astounding new works of art. i look forward to seeing how our show comes together in the coming months...

the show will take place at Phil Holt's "RED LETTER 1" gallery in tampa FL in may of 09. Im really looking forward to this show and I've been working very hard to put together a solid body of work that will hopefully jump start a future in gallery shows in the coming years
